Ariana Schwartz is a textile artist and costume designer for theatre, dance and film. She has spent her life to date immersed in the world of fashion, fabric, and costume, starting with her formative experience learning silk batik in Bali, Indonesia. Ariana's lifelong, continuing experiences traveling and living abroad provide a diverse breadth of inspiration that she consistently draws from for her design and textile work.
Ariana is currently a student at the University of Texas, Austin, where she will receive her M.F.A in 2010. Prior to graduate school, she studied fashion design and fiber art and spent several years living in Bali teaching Balinese women sewing, pattern drafting and other skills necessary for economic self-sufficiency. Ariana’s background in fine art, fashion and textiles contribute to her ability to bring characters to life on stage and create a cohesive visual world through sophisticated use of color, texture and form.
